Description

Oudaen is a fortified medieval house, or "city castle," located at Oudegracht 99 in Utrecht, Netherlands. Built shortly after 1276 by the Zoudenbalch family, it features a main house with three stories, a gabled roof perpendicular to the street, and two cellars. A distinctive stair tower with its own roof adorns the left side of the façade. Originally serving as the Zoudenbalch family residence, it changed ownership in 1395 to the Van Oudaen family. Over the centuries, Oudaen underwent various renovations and served multiple purposes, including as a home for the elderly in the 18th century. Since a thorough restoration in 1986, it has operated as a hospitality venue.
