The "Koornbeurs" is a national monument located in the center of #Delft (Zuid-Holland), likely designed by H. Swaef. Its basement was constructed between 1295 and 1413, functioning as a storage space for meat traded in the wooden hall above. This wooden structure was destroyed in the great city fire of 1536. In 1650, a stone hall was erected atop the existing basement. By the mid-19th century, improved hygiene standards led to the decline of the meat hall's function. In 1871, the building was repurposed as a grain exchange, which gave it the name "Koornbeurs." In the early 20th century, it served various roles, including as a mushroom farm and an auction house for eggs and horse manure. In 1939, the basement was converted into a command center for Delft's air defense, with gas and bomb doors installed that still mark the entrance today.
