The "Paleis op de Meir" in #Antwerpen is an 18th-century Rococo city palace originally built for merchant Johan Alexander van Susteren between 1745 and 1764. Designed by architect Jan Pieter van Baurscheidt de Jonge, it changed hands multiple times before being purchased by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1812. Napoleon renovated it with Empire-style furnishings but never resided there. After his fall, it became a royal residence for Dutch King William I and later the Belgian monarchy.
