Haarlemmerstraat 2 in the center of #Amsterdam (Noord-Holland), built in 1895, replaced older structures at the Singel entrance. Designed by Emanuel Marcus Rood in an eclectic style, the five-story, 23-meter building housed Joh. G. Stemler's bookstore and publishing house. By 1905, other businesses moved in. Around 1920, Noord-Brabant insurance opened a branch, adding a 3-meter, 3000-pound angel statue and decorative elements in a 1920s renovation. The company left in 1937, but the angel and ornaments remained.
