Description

The Belfry of Bruges, also known as the "Halletoren", is a medieval bell tower located on the Grote Markt in #Brugge (West-Vlaanderen), Belgium. Originally constructed around 1240, it served as a symbol of the city's wealth and autonomy, housing a treasury, municipal archives, and functioning as an observation post. After a fire in 1280 destroyed the original structure and archives, the tower was rebuilt, and between 1483 and 1487, an octagonal upper section was added. Standing at 83 meters tall, the belfry leans slightly to the east and contains a narrow, steep staircase of 366 steps leading to the top.
