Description

Corner building in #Brussel, built in eclectic style with neo-baroque elements, designed by architect A. Vanderheggen, built around 1875. Won fourth prize in the 1872-1876 central avenues façade competition. Characteristically fills a sharply tapered corner plot, with a striking three-quarter round corner section and dome. Grand façade of stone, five stories plus entresol, with three corner and five side bays under a dome and mansard roof. Three two-level registers with balconies, balustrades, and inverted Corinthian, Ionic, Doric pilasters. Ornate corner and risalits, rusticated base, round-arched openings with satyr cartouches, and four caryatids by A. Bouré and H. Le Roy. Original glazing, renewed pedimented ground-floor frames, and iron door with “Utrecht” tile panels.
