Description

"Kasteel van Laken", located in #Laken (Brussel), Belgium, is a key royal residence surrounded by a 120-hectare park, including the Royal Greenhouses. Built in 1782 in neoclassical style for Archduchess Maria Christina, it replaced Tervuren Castle. Initially called Schoonenberg, it was later used by Napoleon, who restored it after it was nearly demolished. It became the Belgian kings' main residence, except for Albert II. A 1890 fire led to major rebuilding under Leopold II, who expanded the park and added the greenhouses, Japanese Tower, and Chinese Pavilion.
