The old town hall of #Torhout (West-Vlaanderen) was built in German Baroque style from 1711-1713 at the request of Charles III Philip, lord of Wijnendale. His coat of arms remains above the main entrance. Initially standalone, a prison was added in 1806, replaced by a music school in 1864. Other buildings, like a printing house and residences, were later added. In the 19th century, plans to demolish the town hall due to its small size were abandoned due to lack of funds.
