The "Militiegebouw" in #Amsterdam (Noord-Holland) dates to 1606 as the "(Stads)bushuis" or "Tuighuis", storing weapons and munitions to replace the VOC-occupied "Oude Bushuis". High doors eased cannon movement; upper floors held lighter arms. By 1682, top levels housed the Zijdewindhuis for girls binding silk. The ground floor remained artillery storage until 1787, then became stables. In 1810, French forces used it for conscription in the Militiezaal; post-1815, it served Dutch military, auctions, and exhibitions.
