Description

The "Spaanse Huis" in #Naarden (Noord-Holland), one of the oldest buildings in the town, got its name from the 1572 massacre when Spanish troops killed most male citizens in the town hall during the Eighty Years' War, then burned the city. Originally a medieval chapel, rebuilt in 1615 with memorial stones recalling the atrocity, it later became the public weigh house (1617-1809), then a military bakery with huge intact ovens (1813-1880), and finally a residence.
