Description

"Casino de Monte-Carlo" in #Monaco exemplifies the Beaux-Arts style, blending opulent French classical revival with eclectic flair. Its core pre-war architecture began modestly in 1858-1863 under Gobineau de la Bretonnerie, but truly took shape under François Blanc from 1863 onward. The defining transformation came in 1878-79, when Charles Garnier and Jules Dutrou expanded and redesigned it. Garnier added the sea-facing Salle Garnier, while Dutrou reshaped the Place du Casino facade with symmetrical wings, ornate balustrades, domes, and sculpted details. In 1880-81, Garnier designed the eastern Trente-et-Quarante Gaming Room, featuring Moorish-inspired elements and elaborate ceilings.
