Description

The "Opéra Garnier" in #Paris was commissioned by Emperor Napoleon III as part of his grand urban renewal. Architect Charles Garnier won the 1861 competition; construction began in 1862 but faced delays. It opened in 1875, after the Empire's fall .A masterpiece of Napoleon III (Second Empire) style, eclectic, blending baroque, renaissance, and classical elements, with lavish polychromy, multicolored marbles, gilded bronze, ornate façade, grand marble staircase, opulent foyers, and no surface left undecorated.
