Description

"Duomo di Firenze" in #Florence began in 1296 in gothic style under Arnolfo di Cambio, replacing an older church. The revolutionary dome (world's largest masonry vault then) was engineered by Filippo Brunelleschi (1420-1436), a double-shell, self-supporting brick masterpiece without centering, marking early renaissance innovation. Exterior consists of polychrome marble (green/white/pink).
