The "Dresdner Zwinger" is a striking baroque palatial complex in #Dresden. Commissioned by Augustus the Strong (Elector of Saxony & King of Poland), it was designed by architect Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann with sculptor Balthasar Permoser. Construction began in 1710 (initially as an orangery & festival venue) and was largely completed by 1728. Its richly decorated pavilions, curved galleries, balustrades, statues & vases reflect lavish courtly splendor & mark a transition to rococo elements.
