"Kylemore Abbey", originally "Kylemore Castle", was built in 1868 by Mitchell Henry, a wealthy Manchester doctor, as a private home in Connemara, Ireland. Designed by James Franklin Fuller and Ussher Roberts in Victorian style, it boasted 33 bedrooms, ballrooms, and modern amenities across 40,000 sq ft. After Margaret Henry's death in 1874, a neo-Gothic church was added as a memorial, featuring sandstone, Irish marbles, and delicate motifs. Sold in 1903, it became a Benedictine monastery in 1920 for nuns from Ypres, Belgium.
