Description

The historic town hall of #Malmö was built 1544-1547 when Malmö was a major Scandinavian city under Danish rule. It was the largest town hall in the Nordic region during the 16th century, a two-storey brick building with vaulted medieval cellars. Its current ornate Dutch Renaissance facade, featuring gables, statues & rich detailing, was added in the 1860s by architect Helgo Zettervall during restoration to evoke its original grandeur (replacing earlier neoclassical elements). Interiors include elaborate 19th-century stucco ceilings, the grand Knutssalen & Bernadotte Room.
