"Windsor Castle" in #Windsor, founded by William the Conqueror around 1070 as a Norman motte-and-bailey fortress to guard west of London, started with timber walls and a central mound. Henry II rebuilt it in stone in the late 12th century, adding the iconic Round Tower. Edward III transformed it into a gothic palace in the 14th century. Later additions were baroque interiors under Charles II and romantic gothic revival exteriors by George IV/Wyatville in the 1820s. It's the oldest continuously occupied castle in the world, combining Norman, gothic, and later styles over nearly 1,000 years.
