"Drottningholm Palace", on an island near #Stockholm, began as a 16th-century renaissance residence for Queen Katarina Jagellonika but burned in 1661. Queen Hedvig Eleonora commissioned architect Nicodemus Tessin the Elder to rebuild it in 1662 in grand baroque style, inspired by French and Italian models (like Versailles). His son completed it. Interiors feature early baroque masterpieces; later rococo additions came in the 18th century.
