"Kalmar Slott" in #Kalmar began as a defensive tower around 1180 to protect against sea attacks. Expanded in the 13th century with a ring wall and towers under King Magnus Ladulås, it hosted the 1397 Kalmar Union signing. In the 16th century, Vasa kings Gustav I, Erik XIV, and Johan III transformed the medieval fortress into a well-preserved renaissance palace with continental European style, featuring uniform towers, square windows, and ornate interiors.
