"Malbork Castle", built by the Teutonic Knights from ~1274-1406 in #Malbork/Marienburg, is the world's largest brick castle and Europe's biggest fortified gothic complex. Originally a conventual fortress named "Marienburg", it became the Order's headquarters in 1309 after the Grand Master's seat moved there. Its brick gothic architecture features red brick walls, towers, moats, and a tripartite layout: High Castle (monastic core with cloister, St. Mary's Church, and Grand Masters' tombs), Middle Castle (with the ornate Grand Master's Palace and Great Refectory), and Lower Castle. It exemplifies unique Teutonic medieval planning with no gothic equivalent.
