Description

The main building (Hauptgebäude) of the University of #Bern was inaugurated on June 4, 1903. Designed by architects Alfred Hodler and Eduard Joos after a 1898 competition, it stands prominently on the Grosse Schanze hill above the city. Built in historicist style with neo-renaissance/Beaux-Arts and eclectic elements, it features a grand courtyard, a cascading staircase, and a domed auditorium with allegorical faculty paintings.
