"Kasteel Dommelrode", originally known as "De Bocht" due to its location on a bend of the Dommel River, is a 16th-century moated castle situated just south of Sint-Oedenrode's center. Significant renovations in 1603 introduced marlstone cornerstones and barrel-vaulted cellars. In 1600, it was acquired by Marcus van Gerwen, the quarter bailiff of Peelland. By 1819, the Augustinian nuns established the Mariëndaal convent within its walls.
