"Leeuwenburg" is a monumental house in #Alkmaar (Noord-Holland). Named after Jacob Leeuwenburg, who bought it in 1702, the house features a baroque or Louis XIV-style facade built in 1707, protruding 44 cm beyond the neighboring property. In 1731, neighbor Sijbrant van Haften complained, and the municipality ruled in his favor. In response, Leeuwenburg placed Alkmaar’s coat of arms on his facade with the lions turned backward, insulting the city. The facade still protrudes today.
