Abdij Koningshoeven

Description

"Abdij Koningshoeven," is a Trappist monastery in #BerkelEnschot (Noord-Brabant), the Netherlands. It was founded in 1881 by French monks from Mont des Cats Abbey, who sought refuge due to anti-monastery laws in France. Initially, the monks lived off agriculture and livestock, but for financial reasons, they started a brewery in 1884, now known as "Brouwerij De Koningshoeven," producing La Trappe Trappist beer. The monastery became an abbey in 1891 and helped establish other monasteries, including Maria Toevlucht Abbey in Zundert in 1900. Between 1891 and 1894, new monastic buildings and a neo-Gothic church were constructed under the direction of architect A.G. de Beer.
