Description

The "Kasselrijhof" in #Ieper (West-Vlaanderen) is a reconstructed renaissance building from 1551, originally the seat of the Ypres Kasselrij court, still serving judicial functions today. In the 15th century, administration moved from the decaying Zaalhof to the rented "De Wulf" stone house on the market, purchased in 1502. It was rebuilt in renaissance style from 1551 by high bailiff Jan van Lichtervelde, featuring seven planetary busts. In 1562, a gallows was erected amid the Iconoclastic Fury to punish Protestants. Abolished at the ancien régime's end, it housed new courts (1811-44), then a hotel; bought by literary circle La Concorde in 1844. Destroyed in WWI, it was faithfully reconstructed by Jules Coomans using old images.
