Description

Remarkable late-Gothic facade in #Mechelen (Antwerpen) with early renaissance features, possibly attributed to R. Keldermans, originally built between 1520-1525. The stepped gable has two stories and two bays under a pitched roof. The facade is made of small, regularly arranged sandstone blocks. The upper floor features a clear register layout, overhanging on depressed Tudor arches with late-gothic crocketed decorations, supported by columns with leaf capitals reminiscent of Brabantine gothic.

The recessed arch panels depict Old Testament scenes in a remarkable, renaissance-influenced style, including "The Garden of Eden" and "The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil." Adapted wall openings with preserved corner stones. The two-part gable top is marked by dripstones, bull's-eye windows, and a loft window, with remnants of now-missing pinnacles.
