Description

The former town hall of #Wevelgem (West-Vlaanderen), built between 1905 and 1910 by Kortrijk architect J. Deboosere. Originally, the basement housed the fire and police stations, while a lower wing contained the post office and postmaster's residence. This striking L-shaped yellow brick building blends Flemish neo-renaissance and Belle Epoque styles, with a stone plinth, slate roofs, ornate dormers, step gables, and a polygonal corner turret. The imposing corner entrance features a stone portal with a triangular pediment and gilded "GEMEENTEHUIS" cartouche. Inside, the entrance hall and staircase gleam with white-glazed brick, colorful mosaic floors by Odorico & Martina, and an elegant iron spiral stair.
