"Kasteel Marquette" in #Heemskerk (Noord-Holland) stands on the foundations of "Slot Heemskerck", built around 1250 for defense in the West Frisian Wars. Ruled by the Lords of Heemskerk, it faced sieges in 1358 and plunder in 1426, later passing to the Lords of Assendelft. In 1610, Daniël de Hertaing renamed it "Marquette". Owned by the Rendorp (1717-1909) and Gevers families, it was rebuilt in the 18th century and reshaped in 1742 and 1828.
