"House of the Blackheads" in the old town in #Riga was constructed in 1334 as the city's largest public building: a grand warehouse, meeting, and celebration hall for merchants. From the mid-15th century, it became the headquarters of the Brotherhood of Blackheads, a lively guild for unmarried foreign merchants, shipowners, and visitors. Major Mannerist ornamentation transformed its facade in the early 17th century, with additional 19th-century sculptures by August Volz's workshop.
