"Kronborg" in #Helsingør began as the medieval fortress "Krogen" in the 1420s, built by Eric of Pomerania to control the Øresund strait & collect Sound Dues. From 1574-1585, King Frederick II transformed it into a magnificent renaissance castle, featuring white walls, ornate towers, gables, sandstone decorations, & Flemish architects' influence. Defenses (bastions, ramparts, moats) were reinforced in the late 17th century per military architecture standards.
