Description

The "Fire Tower" ("Tűztorony") in #Sopron is the city's iconic symbol, rising 58-60 meters with a baroque onion dome crowned by a double-headed eagle. It stands on Roman foundations from ancient Scarbantia, with its lower square base and cylindrical medieval section built as the northern gate tower in the late 13th/early 14th century. After the great fire of 1676 destroyed the upper part (ironic), it was rebuilt with a renaissance-style round balcony and clock elements, plus a baroque spire and balcony.
