"Zamek Książ" in #Wałbrzych (or Waldenburg), is the third-largest castle in the country and the largest in Silesia. Built 1288-1292 by Silesian Piast duke Bolko I the Strict on a rocky promontory above the Pełcznica River gorge, it began as a gothic defensive fortress, replacing an earlier destroyed fortification. Over centuries, it changed hands frequently, was expanded and rebuilt, especially under the wealthy Hochberg family, combinding gothic, baroque, rococo, and neoclassical/neo-renaissance styles. It now features over 400 rooms in a vast, eclectic complex with restored opulent interiors and landscaped gardens.
